Family sessions

The best family sessions happen when nobody is trying too hard. I give you enough direction to feel comfortable, then step back and let your family be your family.

Sessions run for 60 to 90 minutes. We can shoot on-location across Sydney at golden hour -beaches,  parks, wherever feels like home - or in a private studio for something calmer and more contained. I'll suggest the right fit when you enquire.

Bring the kids as they are. Tired toddlers, reluctant teenagers, babies who need a feed - none of it phases me, and some of the best frames come from the unscripted moments in between.

Whatever stage your family is at

Babies and toddlers

"Families with little ones often worry most — will they cooperate, will they nap through the whole thing, will anyone be smiling? In my experience, toddlers make the best sessions. They don't perform for the camera, which means the images look completely real. I build in time, I work around their pace, and I've never ended a session without something worth keeping."

Primary school age

"Kids this age are often the easiest to photograph — old enough to follow a little direction, young enough to still be unselfconscious. This is also the stage families most often say they wish they'd captured more — it passes quickly and quietly."

Teenagers

"Teenagers hate having their photo taken. I know this. I don't force poses or ask them to smile. I give them something to do — walk, throw something, ignore me — and work with whatever happens. Some of the most genuinely beautiful family portraits I've made have had a reluctant teenager in them."

Mixed ages

"If you've got a baby on one hip and a twelve-year-old rolling their eyes, we'll make it work. Most family sessions are a mix of ages and energy levels. That's not a problem — that's just your family, which is exactly what we're here to photograph."
